Q: What’s your food and nutrition background?

A: I’ve always loved food, loved to eat good food well prepared with friends and family. My mom was a great quantity cook and I had a large family, so there was always lots of food around. When I went to Cornell, I studied nutrition thinking that I might go to medical school. My interest in food and nutrition grew, and I went through the clinical nutrition path, which is rigorous, to become a registered dietitian. In addition to required coursework, there’s an internship and a fairly arduous exam. I’ve worked in quite a variety of nutrition jobs, from overseeing therapeutic kitchens to directing statewide public education programs at the MA Department of Public Health. I also worked in restaurants while getting my Masters, most notably Biba in Boston. That was a great culinary education in itself. I love the interface of science and art in the world of food nutrition and lifestyle. Now I weave what I’ve learned into my therapeutic practice, workshops and my writing.
